Hard Drive Recovery Solution
Theory: One of the 2 hard drives has degraded and will most probably
die completely. The Mac System has slowly had more problems in reading
the Lacie Disk taking longer to transfer files. Finally the Mac gives
up and stops recognizing certain Directories. Checking the Lacie for errors
only makes things worse.
Your data now seems LOST !!!
- step 1:
Tear apart the Lacie enclosure, you will find 2 identical Maxtor 6H500R0
hard drives.
-You will find 2 phillips screws at the rear of the Lacie unit.
-Remove the back plate then you can slide the hard drive assembly from
the front.
-You will now see the 2 hard drives.
-On the bottom you will see the mounting screws, label the drives Master
and Slave before removing.
- step 2:
Duplicate each hard drive individually to similar destination hard drives
(for safe keeping).
-The jumpers on the drives will be set for Master and Slave
-Follow the diagram on the drive labels to set the hard drive to MASTER
for cloning.
- step 3:
NOTE: I like HDCLONE Hard Drive Recovery Software
from Data Recovery Labs, it works well for cloning hard drives with
bad sectors
- step 4:
Once you have cloned as much of both drives as possible, you should
be able to install both cloned hard drives back into the Lacie BigDisk
Extreme and retrieve your data.
-Making a second clone is more effort but will protect your data should
something go wrong during the Recovery process.
-Note: don't forget to restore the jumpers back for correct Master and
Slave functionality.
- step 5:
If your drive does not mount, you can now use all Disk Repair Uitilities
in MAC or Diskwarrior works well also. If the structure is too damaged,
R-studio or File Savenger from QueTek work good enough to get critical
files or Pictures.
