Configuration: DELL
Inspiron™ 15 (1525) with Hitachi Travelstar IC25N060ATMR04-0
OS / File System: Windows
XP Home, NTFS.
Failure: Complete
head failure, hard drive not recognized in BIOS
Hard Drive Recovery Procedure
- step 1: You
will need a Hitachi Travelstar IC25N060ATMR04-0 for parts. The hard
drive must match, MLC:H71515 P/N:08K0863.
- step2: You
will now carefully remove the heads from the parts hard drive and replace
the failed heads in the damaged hard drive. This, of course must be
done in a clean enviornment (Class 100 or better).
- step 3: Using
a suitable destination hard drive (capacity of 60GB or more), set up
a machine with both source and destination and power up with COPYHD.exe
from Data Recovery, inc.
- step 4: Start
cloning the drive at sector 0, keep in mind the MFT (Master File Table)
is located around sector 6,500,000 and extra efforts should be made
to insure as much of this region as possible.
- step 5: If
you should reach a bad region (too many bad sector(s)), you should skip
these areas as much as possible. Jump 10,000 sector(s) or so, jot down
the sector number of each of these regions.
- step 6: On
this hard drive, we had no bad sector at all. We copied the clone to
another hitachi travelstar 60GB and returned it to the Dell Laptop.
It worked perfectely. We returned the Dell Laptop to the client repaired.
