Configuration: Full Tower with a single IBM Deskstar IC35L040AVVN07-0 hard drive.
OS / File System: Windows 2003 Server, NTFS
Failure: I
started the system, it displayed the Windows logo, then the blue screen
of death. When I restarted it, the Windows logo appeared, then a black
screen with the following message:
Loading PBR for Descriptor 2... done
A disk reader error occurred
press ctrl + alt + delete to restart
Hard Drive Recovery Procedure
- step 1: Find an identical IC35L040AVVN07-0 hard drive with the same MLC:H68883
- step 2: The head pre-amplifier lost a channel so that you will have to replace the Head Stack Assembly in a Class 100 Clean Room.
- step 3: Clone the hard drive using COPYHD.exe from Data Recovery, inc.
- step 4: Make a duplcate of the clone of your hard drive.
- step 5: If you have no bad sector(s) you should be able to install the clone into your computer and resume normal operation.
