Crash (failed head amplifier)
Hard Drive Recovery Procedure
- step 1: Locate
an identical drive using the Part Number and/or the Model number, MLC
must match H71515
- The following steps must be performed in a Class 100
Clean Room environment.
- step 2: Remove
and replace the Head Stack Assembly.
- step 3: The
defective should be now operational, unless the platter surface is scratched,
duplicate as much of the defective as possible.
- step 4: Use
COPYHD.exe
from Data Recovery,inc.
- step 5: Just
in case there are hidden scratches, start cloning the drive from sector
0.
- step 6:
If you should come across a series of Bad Sector(s) prior to sector
6,500,000, start reverse cloning from sector 7,000,00 backward. This
will supply you with a copy of the MFT (Master File Table).
- step 7: If
further Bad Sectors are encountered start reverse cloning from the end
of the hard drive.
- step 8: Avoid
as many Bad Sector areas as possible jotting down the sector position
as you go.
- step 9:
Once you have cloned as much of the hard drive as possible, you can
always go back and attack the Bad Sector areas for final refinements.
- step 10: Make
secondary clones of the duplicated hard drive.
- step 11:
If the clone has errors (Bad Sectors), run Data
Recovery Software to recover as much data as you can from the clone.
- step 12:
Transfer all files to an external Western Digital Passport USB hard
drive.
- step 13:
If the clone has no errors, you should be able to return the clone into
active service as if nothing ever happened.
