Configuration: RAID 5 with 4 Maxtor 500 GB 6H500R0 sata drives
OS: Windows 2003 Enterprise Server
Failure: Degraded Array, 2 failed drives.
- step 1: copy the raid 5 configuration from the bios setup
- step 2: label each drive and take care to maintain the original order
- step 3: duplicate each drive seperately
- step 4: replace all failed or damaged drives with identical drives.
- step 5: create a new array with identical drives in the original configuration modifiying all serial and model numbers to match the original drives.
- step 6: copy as much of the original drives as possible to the new drives leaving the last 50,000 sectors intact. This contains the new valid raid 5 configuration.
- step 7: power up the server and you should be able to retreive your data.
