Samsung HD321KJ Hard Drive Recovery (head preamplifier electronic failure)

Configuration: single Samsung HD321KJ 320GB SATA desktop drive.

OS: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2.

Failure: Head Pre-Amplifier electronic failure. Fails to be recognized by the system BIOS.


  • step 1: Find an identical donor drive with matching Model number, REV. A and Firmware (CP100-11).
  • step 2: Remove and replace the Head Stack assembly to the customer drive in a Class 100 Clean Room.
  • step 3: Mirror as much of the customer drive as possible, ignoring all Bad Sectors using Data Recovery, inc proprietary software COPYHD.exe Hard Drive Recovery Software.
  • step 4: A few bad sectors were encountered therefore data was recovered using GetDataBack data recovery software from the cloned drive.
  • step 5: Return recovered data (200Gb) on an external Western Digital Passport 250GB USB drive.
